Daniel’s Experience Opening an ABLEnow Account

Daniel Morales first heard about ABLEnow accounts from a fellow Special Olympics athlete, who happens to be a good friend. After exploring the ABLEnow website with his parents, they decided to open an account.

Enrollment was much easier than Daniel expected. Now, ABLEnow empowers him to take more ownership of his finances and become more independent.

“My hope is to be a little bit more financially smart,” said Daniel. “I think having this account is a good reminder to think about my future.”

Daniel recommends ABLEnow to his eligible friends and teammates. “The fact that it was so easy to set up, plus the good things that I've heard about it, I think it’s a no-brainer,” adds Daniel.

Like Daniel, many ABLEnow customers share that enrollment takes just a few minutes. But for someone who has never saved in an online account or is still learning about the benefits of the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act, opening an ABLE account may seem daunting. To feel prepared, take a moment to review these three things to know before completing your ABLEnow application.

  1. Are you eligible? Individuals in all 50 states who developed their disability before the age of 26 may be eligible to open an ABLEnow account. Take this quiz to see if you or someone you know qualifies.

  2. What information do you need? ABLEnow is committed to protecting your personal and financial information with industry-leading technology to verify your identity.

If you’re opening the account for yourself, you will need to provide your name, address, date of birth and Social Security number, among other information. Occasionally, applicants may be required to upload additional documentation such as a government-issued ID or proof of address.

If you’re opening the account for someone else as an Authorized Representative, you will need to provide information for both yourself and the eligible individual. During enrollment, those opening an account as a Representative Payee, Legal Guardian or Power of Attorney will be required to upload the appropriate documentation. Providers can learn about group enrollment at ABLEnow.com/Group.

  3. How do you start your savings? After completing your application, you will receive a welcome email with information on adding money and managing your new ABLEnow account online.

With ABLEnow, it’s never been easier to save and invest for your future. For many customers, opening an ABLE account is an important step in self-determination and financial independence. Congratulations on this milestone!
